Melatonin Treats Insomnia and Depression

http://LEF.prg

Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) uses melatonin to improve depression along with amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and herbs. Melatonin is a hormone produced in the brain by the pineal gland from the amino acid tryptophan. It is available as a nutritional supplement. You can also increase melatonin levels by supplementing the amino acid tryptophan. Melatonin is stimulated by darkness and suppressed by light and is affected by the circadian rhythm. It regulates diverse body functions. Levels of melatonin in the blood are highest prior to bedtime. Low levels of melatonin are associated with some types of cancer.

Melatonin will help treat depression that stems from inadequate sleep. When the sleep cycle is improved, this type of depression patient will often recover quickly. Anxiety is also a problem when there is sleep deprivation. Almost every type of brain condition gets worse when there is insufficient sleep. It is important to ask your doctor about this problem. Hormone imbalances often cause many brain conditions during menopause or andropause.

Melatonin will cross the blood brain barrier and increase brain circulation. It increases the production of neurotransmitters and balances the brain. It strengthens the immune system. The enhanced immune system is due to the improvement in hormone and neurotransmitter regulation.

Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) uses melatonin to treat insomnia, jet lag, ischemia, smoking cessation, sleep disturbances related to depression, depression caused by sleep deprivation, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and anxiety. This hormone may be combined with amino acids to increase its effectiveness. Nutritional support can include food-based multivitamins, Vitamin E, Vitamin D, CoQ10, and alpha lipoic acid. Try adding yoga or mild exercise for producing maximum results from Melatonin.

Anxiety, Nervousness, and Agoraphobia Improve with KAVA

Life Extension Foundation
Quantum Brain Healing uses Kava Kava to sedate the overactive brain. Kava acts on the limbic system and it affects several neurotransmitters including GABA and noradrenalin. The limbic area of the brain is key to your emotions of sadness, fear, and anger.

Kava has anticonvulsant effects. It is an anti-inflammatory and can be considered a secondary level anti-aging herb. It can act as a muscle relaxant on the skeletal muscles and Central Nervous System. Kava is an anxiolytic and treats anxiety. Kava can enhance cognitive thinking skills and improve reaction time. It is important not to overuse this herb.

It may be an adaptogen due to its slight ability to elevate mood and sedate. Frequently herbs that can produce two opposing actions depending upon what is needed by the body are considered adaptogens. Kava is associated with lower levels of leukemia and ovarian cancer by a study at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. It is important to note that there are reports of severe liver toxicity by a few on this herb. This may be due to problems with how it is made or other substances that the patients are consuming while on this herb.

Kava can be used to treat anxiety, nervousness, stress, and insomnia. These conditions are common in many people. The slight sedating effect of Kava may resolve anxiety and stress. This is related to the process of reversing insomnia. Kava treats agoraphobia and may be tied to its ability to affect the limbic area of the brain.

Kava must be supported with vitamins, minerals, and high levels of antioxidants. A break should be taken from this herb on a regular basis. Use a wide variety of organic vegetables and fruits. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, nicotine, and recreational drugs when taking Kava. Do not do anything to overload the liver. A regular liver detoxification is a good idea for anyone taking this herb.

This is not recommended for those with Parkinson’s, liver disease, lung disease, depression, or bipolar disease. Kava has negative interactions with acetazolamide, amiloride, furosemide or with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as benazepril, captopril, lisinopril, quinapril, ramipril, levodopa-based medication, alcohol, Xanax, barbiturates, or other mood-altering drugs. It is contra-indicated in these cases.

Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD

BC
Quantum Brain Healing can be used for traumatic brain injury patients having terrible memories which continue for decades. Quantum Brain Healing is the use of CAM (complementary alternative medicine) and orthomolecular medicine for a directed change in brain chemistry. Traumatic brain injury may occur in a sports injury like professional football or baseball. It may also be a common problem associated with serious automobile accidents or falling from a roof when removing Christmas lights. This trauma can also occur for victims of violent crimes at home or the office.

PTSD and traumatic brain injury patients experience memory impairment, including not remembering aspects of the trauma or entire events. Their trauma is stored on a cellular level and their memory does not reduce emotional trauma or physical symptoms. Their brain dysfunction impairs the amygdala and hippocampus areas until it has been repaired.

Several neurotransmitters are involved in PTSD or traumatic brain injury, including serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suffers damage after serious brain injury or PTSD. The neurotransmitter receptors are overactive. There may be higher levels of noradrenaline and increased autonomic activity. Serotonin is involved in stress-induced corticosteroid release. Small problems result in increased noradrenaline levels.

Sexual dysfunction is often found in those suffering from traumatic brain injury and PTSD. Horny Goat Weed and Deer Antler herbal products may be useful to balance hormone levels and endocrine levels for sexual dysfunction in men. This will take from four to twelve weeks. Both herbs increase testosterone and alter serotonin levels. Amino acids can also quickly alter neurotransmitter levels to help stabilize this disorder.

Traumatic brain injury and PTSD patients experiencing stress may have increased response to dopamine agonists like cocaine. They may have symptoms of hyper-vigilance and even paranoia that are likely to be mediated by the dopamine system. This occurs through the body’s production of opioids during trauma in order to act as “internal pain-killers”. Their nervous system is overactive and requires a less intense shock to cause associated trauma. Opioid substance abuse is often reported by patients with PTSD. The opioid blocker naloxone may reverse the analgesia induced by stress.

Cortisol levels seem unstable in these patients and low cortisol levels may occur. This can be caused by hyper-suppression of cortisol. PTSD and traumatic brain injury may cause increased secretion of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF). This type of stress on the body seriously alters hormone and neurotransmitter levels. After the brain is balanced for a significant period, the frequency of traumatic memories ill diminish.

Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) for this patient may require amino acids, herbs, vitamins, scalp acupuncture, and antioxidants. These products may be combined into an IV for faster results.
